Lego for adults, those who remember how video games started. Presentation of the collection set "Atari 2600"
Share
Hey everyone, today we're taking a look at an amazing ultra-niche kit. The Lego Group continues massive experiments with collaborations with everything possible: clothing brands (Adidas, Levi's, H&M), movies and TV shows, games, and now game consoles. And if everything was more or less clear with Nintendo, the Super Mario series came out, deep collaboration between the companies. With the new set, the story is completely different. Let's figure it out.
The funny thing about the new set is its marking "18+". Our colleagues from other forums agreed in sarcastic comments that it was worth indicating “40+” because the console in this form appeared only in 1980.
In fact, the Atari 2600 is a real gaming mastodon, the company (and the console) had a huge impact on the birth of the video game industry. However, now the console is forgotten by the majority of the population. Only an extremely small number of adult gamers will say: “It's the legendary Atari!"
Of course, if you start remembering, you can recall the legendary "Pac-Man", "Asteroids" and even the modern "Alone in the Dark". Moreover, even if you close your eyes and imagine that tomorrow Sega is releasing the building kit for 240 euros, I don’t think that there will be a line of buyers anywhere in the world. Someone will buy it for fun, but 90% of the population will pass by such an investment. For $500, you can try to find a brand new PS5, still a different level.
The console comes with a module with three classic Atari games. Of course, all the good stuff has been redone under the "Lego theme".
As for the functionality, here we see the highest level of detail. Games fit perfectly in the compartment for consoles, there is a functional joystick with a cable and buttons. There are controls on the control panel. Everything is very beautiful and extremely realistic.
Each "cartridge" with the game has a corresponding classic scene. Users of the rare console will be more than happy, the rest of the viewers of this set will be surprised: “what is all that money for?”
There is also a “secret” scene with a gamer kid from the 80s in the set. We can see his little room with a console, a tube TV, and a wired telephone, as well, as posters (Lego Adventures, which came out much later than 1980) and a kitten. We can also clearly see the Atari symbol on the console, which, apparently, is a print.
Set details:
Code: 10306
Name: Atari 2600
Minifigures: 1 piece
Parts: 2532 pcs
Dimensions: 8 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 22 cm deep
Price: 240 $ (240 euros)
Release date: August 1, 2022
The set is dedicated to a very niche audience. Of the similar ones, we can remember the "Grand Piano" set and its fate - even huge discounts did not attract buyers. I think with this set the story will be similar - a small target audience will buy a set for themselves on the first day, and the rest of the buyers will prefer other sets.
As for my opinion: this is a very cool set that has a unique minifigure and details. Cool approach, perfect authenticity, and nice appearance. However, just look at how many cheap stickers are there instead of unique prints. And now add the cost of 240 euros. And now the set is not so cool.
