LEGO is negotiating with Universal about new movies in its own universe

When the Lego Movie and Lego Batman Movie were released, no one doubted that the relationship between LEGO and Warner Bros. will be long and happy. However, the following projects (The Lego Ninjago Movie and Lego Movie 2) were much less successful and did not even bring profit, and in the fall the contract, according to which the rights to LEGO projects belonged to Warner Bros., expired. And since at that time LEGO was already not very happy with collaborations, the company began to look for a new studio for partnership.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Dan Lin, who has worked on all WB LEGO movies, is negotiating with Universal. If they succeed, it is this studio that will release future movies in the company's universe. Although the parties do not comment on potential cooperation, analysts believe that both players can benefit from it: LEGO will get a reboot of its own universe, and Universal will acquire a brand franchise, which there are not so many at its disposal.
However, it is too early to draw any conclusions: according to sources, other studios are also interested in LEGO movies.
