LEGO® Education has done a good deed. Now for programming the LEGO Mindstorms Education EV3 platform, you can use the MicroPython programming environment, which is a version of the Python programming language.
MicroPython is optimised to work with microcontrollers like the ones included in the EV3 package. Students can write programs in the open source Microsoft Visual Studio Code editor, there are versions for Windows, MacOS, Linux. Developed skills will subsequently help students to work with Python in future. MicroPython will allow teachers to leverage the LEGO MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 kits to further enhance and complement curricula in science and technology (STEAM) subjects as well as robotics education in high school and secondary vocational education institutions.
LEGO® Education, a division of the LEGO® Group that offers opportunities for hands-on STEAM training in an interactive way based on the LEGO® design system. It includes bricks, hardware and software, as well as educational and methodological content for preschool education, primary and basic schools, additional education programs and robotic competitive activities. These decisions form an environment for active practice-oriented learning, during which children are inculcated with critical skills for their future studies and adulthood, love of learning, confidence in their own abilities and willingness to solve educational problems of any difficulty level.
LEGO® Education is planning lessons using EV3 packs which are designed to help high school students develop programming skills, necessary for a successful career as a software engineer. Proposed materials focused on the study of modern information technologies, engineering design methods and production automation technologies.
